Brian, ein freiberuflicher amerikanischer Journalist Ende dreiig, mu sich durch Zufall mit den Abgrnden der Menschlichkeit auseinandersetzen. Durch seinen Freund Omar, wird er im Vorfeld des elften September auf schreckliche Indizien hingewiesen, die einen Anschlag islamistischer Zellen in Amerika voraussagen. Vllig konsterniert suchen sie nach einer Lsung. Die Brian auch schnell parat hat. Nur sein Vater, Dan Mc Carthy, ein alter CIAAgent auer Dienst, wrde eine Antwort haben. So machen sie sich auf den Weg nach Staten Island, wo Brian's Vater wohnt. Dort angekommen, berichten sie von Omar's Verdacht, worauf dieser sofort reagiert und seinen alten Freund Thomas Witkinshaw mit ins Boot holt. Die beiden waren Kollegen bei der CIA und kennen sich schon seit den Zeiten des Kalten Krieges. Noch besser daran ist, dass Witkinshaw spter zum FBI wechselte und dort die Leitung des AntiTerrorKampfes bernahm. Als Thom sich die Sachlage anhrt, erwhnt er sofort den Namen Bayley. Bayley ist der wichtigste Mann in diesem bsen Spiel, denn er ist es, der den im Hintergrund stehenden Eliten den vorgegebenen Weg ebnet. So beginnt fr Brian eine Odyssee durch die beklemmenden Realitten des Seins. Er erfhrt auch, dass egal was er unternehmen wrde, er die Anschlge und das danach Folgende, nicht verhindern kann. Doch mehr und mehr kommt Brian dahinter, dass erst etwas geschehen muss, damit die Menschen begreifen.
