In Deutschland, wie in anderen fortgeschrittenen Gesellschaften zeigt sich seit Jahrzehnten eine Verlagerung der Wirtschaftsaktivitt vom sekundren in den tertiren Bereich, was zur Folge hat, dass immer weniger Menschen in Bereichen der einfachen Handarbeit ttig sind, sondern hochwertigere Kopf und Wissensarbeit bewltigen mssen. Ttigkeiten mit einem geringeren Qualifikationsbedarf werden in Schwellen und Entwicklungslnder ausgelagert oder, wo mglich, durch Automation ersetzt. Schtzungen gehen davon aus, dass mittlerweile 50 % der Wertschpfung eines Produkts auf intellektuelle Inputs zurckzufhren sind (z.B. F&E, Design und begleitende Services). Laut einer Studie unter 5000 weltweit operierenden Firmen setzt sich deren Gesamtwert mittlerweile zu 62 % aus Intangible Assets" (Goodwill, Geistiges Eigentum und Humankapital) zusammen. Beschrnkt man sich auf einzelne Sektoren, wie z.B. die Werbe oder Pharmaziebranche, so verwundert es nicht, dass hier nahezu 100 % bzw. 89 % des Wertes durch immaterielle Gter erreicht wird. Bei einer Gesamtbetrachtung zeigt sich allerdings, dass die kumulierten Wertsteigerungen der hier untersuchten Firmen von 9,4 Billionen US $ zwischen 2001 und 2006, nur zu 36 % auf materielle Vermgenswerte zurckzufhren sind und das quer durch alle Branchen.
