Wahrend die Technologie der Germanium und Siliziumbauelemente bereits vor J ahren eine auBerordentlich rasche Entwicklung vom Labor stadium zur industriellen Massenfertigung durchgemacht hat, befindet sich die Technologie der GalliumarsenidBauelemente gegenwartig in einem nur verhaltnismaBig langsam fortschreitenden ProzeB des Dber ganges von der Laborentwicklung zur Fertigungsreife. Diese Tatsache steht in ursachlichem Zusammenhang mit den sehr erheblichen techno logischen Schwierigkeiten bei der Herstellung geeigneten Galliumarsenid Materials und bei der Realisierung von GalliumarsenidBauelementen. Ferner sind die Ursachen einiger nachteiliger Eigenschaften von Gallium arsenidBauelementen (z. E. Frequenzbegrenzung bei bipolaren Transi storen, Kennlinienveranderungen bei Tunneldioden) noch nicht voll standig geklart. In jiingster Zeit ist nun ein steigender kommerzieller Einsatz von GalliumarsenidBauelementen insbesondere von Hochstfrequenz dioden und optoelektronischen Bauelementen zu bemerken. Mit dem Einsatz von ElektronentransferBauelementen kann in Kiirze gerechnet werden. Es ist zu erwarten, daB diese neuere Entwicklung, die von wesentlichen Verbesserungen auf dem Materialsektor begleitet wird, auch befruchtend auf die Veiterentwicklung von 'klassischen' Bauelementen (bipolare und Feldeffekttransistoren) wirkt. In dieser Situation erscheint es wiinschenswert, einem moglichst groBen Kreis von Fachleuten und Studierenden hoherer Semester eine zusammenfassende Darstellung des heutigen Standes der GalliumarsenidTechnologie zur Verfiigung zu stellen. Die jedem Kapitel beigefiigten Literaturverzeichnisse sollen eine Hilfestellung fiir den an Einzelfragen interessierten Leser geben. Bei der Auswahl der Literaturstellen wurde zusammenfassenden Darstellungen der Vorzug gegeben, da diese im Vergleich zu Originalarbeiten dem Leser eine umfassendere und oft besser aufbereitete Information liefern.
