Having been taught for almost 600 years, Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto Ryu is one of the oldest Japanese martial arts. This is the first English translation of the book, which was originally published in Japan in 1941. With its many pictures and texts it presents the Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto Ryus basic techniques and kata with the sword (iaijutsu, kenjutsu), bo (bojutsu) and the naginata (naginatajutsu) in great depth. This book also describes the relevance and the aim of budo and budo training methods to the reader, as well as the essential basics of budo (kamae, maai, metsuke, zanshin, munenmuso, etc.). Additionally, it provides information on the origin and history of the Katori Shinto Ryu style, which was founded by Iizasa Choisai Ienao sensei (1387 1488). This book is complemented by historical and biographical texts written by Yoshio Sugino. Both the 20th Soke of the Katori Shinto Ryu Yasusada Iizasa sensei and Yukihiro Sugino sensei have also kindly provided a preface.

I've been practicing Katori Shinto Ryu for years, and this kyohan is a great resource. The depth of knowledge is impressive, and it covers everything from basics to advanced techniques. It's a must-have for anyone serious about their training!

Not what I expected
The manual for Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto Ryu Budo was somewhat disappointing. The content is good, but I expected more practical application tips. The examples were a bit too vague at times, which made it hard to apply the techniques in practice.

Valuable resource but a bit dense
This manual for Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto Ryu is packed with information. I find it valuable, but sometimes the language feels a bit technical. I wish there were more illustrations to follow along with the techniques. Still, it’s a good read for serious practitioners.

Good content but took a while to arrive
I ordered the Tenshin Shoden Budo Kyohan, which I found very informative. However, it took nearly two weeks to arrive, and I was a bit disappointed with the delay. Once it got here, I really enjoyed the sections on historical techniques.

Great for beginners and pros alike!
I bought the Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto Ryu Budo Kyohan as a supplement to my martial arts training. The details in the guide are incredibly helpful, and I appreciate the historical context provided. It’s written clearly, making it easy to understand whether you're just starting out or looking to deepen your knowledge.
