Lieven, the only western journalist permanently based in the Baltic during the struggle for independence, presents a thoroughly informed and perceptive portrait of their history and culture, from their ancient origins to the present day. He explores the characteristics and personalities of the Baltic peoples, their religious and national differences, their relations with Russia and the West, and their prospects for the future. I expected more from this book, especially when it comes to details about Estonia. Some chapters just felt rushed. I love Baltic history, but I was left wanting more depth and clarity. Not my favorite read.

Interesting but Lacked Depth in Some Areas
This book is a solid read and has some great insights into the Baltic Revolution. However, I felt like some parts were a bit glossed over. Still, for anyone looking to understand the independence movements better, it's worth checking out.

A Deep Dive into Baltic History
I always wanted to learn more about the Baltic states, and this book delivered! It covers Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania so well. The stories of their path to independence are inspiring and well-researched. If you're into history, grab this one!
