Black History Month, starting as Negro History Week, began as an effort by Carter G. Woodson (18751950) to recognize the valuable contributions Black (African) Americans have made in the United States and throughout the world. African American History which has been virtually ignored, is beginning to be acknowledged in classroom books and curriculums. However, enough has not been done to fully recognize the contributions of African Americans to history. Thus, "The Black History Quiz Guide" was designed and created to further the goal that Carter G. Woodson was trying to accomplish, to present a fair picture of the role African Americans have played in American and World History. The black history quizguide is divided into eight (8) sections of black history facts. Each section begins with a black history worksheet. The worksheet is followed by fact sheets on the black history contributors who are listed on the worksheet at the end of each section. The answers to the worksheet are on the page that follows the facts. The black history quiz is designed to test your present knowledge of black history as well as enhance your knowledge of history. It is hoped that you will enjoy the quizguide as you enrich your knowledge of the contributions that African Americans have made to history. Dr. Cadmus S. Hull Dr. C. Sam Hull earned an Associate Degree in Education from Cumberland County College and further pursued his academic goals through Glassboro State College (GSC), now Rowan University. At Glassboro State College Sam continued his educational tour leading to both a Bachelor's Degree and a Master's Degree. Sam's educational path led him to Nova University where he achieved his ultimate goal of a Doctorate in School Leadership. Dr. Hull's achievements as an educational leader have been well documented through numerous contributions to the education field. Fairfield Board of Education enjoyed the fruits of this dedicated and committed educator for twentynine years. Dr. Hull retired June 30, 2004, after 33 years in education. A little known black history fact is that Dr. Hull was Cumberland County's first black Superintendent of Schools. Dr. Hull is enjoying his retirement with his wife Sylvia while writing, reading, traveling and following his daughter Jessica's basketball and track events. In addition, Dr. Hull keeps himself busy these days by serving as a Clinical Teaching Supervisor for Fairleigh Dickinson University and as the Managing Member of his familyowned tutoring program for children in grades kindergarten through eighth.
