One of the most devastating weapons of the Middle Ages, the crossbow fired a 12inch bolt capable of piercing all but the strongest armor. This fascinating illustrated study traces its use in both medieval and modern times as a military and sporting weapon. It also covers related weapons, including balistas, catapults, and the Turkish bow. Over 240 illustrations.

The Book of the Crossbow is a fascinating read, especially for anyone interested in military history. The additional section on catapults really adds depth to the content. I’ve learned so much about these weapons and can’t wait to try some of the techniques mentioned!

Informative but a bit dry
I appreciate the thoroughness of this book, but I found some sections quite technical and hard to get through. The illustrations are excellent, though! If you’re really into siege engines, it’s worth it, just be prepared for some heavy reading.
