Like a fresh breeze from the sea and memories of long runs past yellow beaches and heavy beats up stormy coasts, comes the story of The Boy, Me and the Cat. Mr. Plummer, accompanied by Henry, Jr.(to whom the book is dedicated), and Scotty the cat, sailed in their Cape Cod catboat 'Mascot' from Marion, Massachusetts, to Miami, Florida, on October 14, 1912. How they set forth southward down the coast, how they were wrecked on the hazardous coast of North Carolina, and how they reached Miami at last is set forth in a log with a style that smacks of salt winds and a language almost extinct from the days of sail. This is a story of adventure by sea and of charming description by land and sea. In spite of the nautical detail, even a landsman could not call it the least bit dull. A vein of witty humor runs throughout, and the book is like an exquisite little pen picture. There are wonderful photographs from the time period which give the reader a good sense of the Intracoastal Waterway and canals as they existed in the early 20th century.
