Product DescriptionThe tale of his celebrated love affair with George Sand in 18331835 is told from his point of view in his autobiographical novel La Confession d'un Enfant du Sicle (The Confession of a Child of the Century) (1836), which was made into a 1999 film Children of the Century and a 2012 film The Confession of a Child of the Cenrury and is told from her point of view in her Elle et lui (1859).Alfred Louis Charles de Musset was a French dramatist, poet, and novelist. After attempts at careers in medicine, law, drawing, English, and piano, he became one of the first Romantic writers. He was the librarian of the French Ministry of the Interior under the July Monarchy, but was dismissed from his post as librarian after the revolution of 1848. He was appointed librarian of the Ministry of Public Instruction during the Second Empire. Musset received the Lgion d'Honneur on April 24, 1845, at the same time as Balzac, and was elected to the Acadmie Franaise in 1852.About the AuthorAlfred Louis Charles de MussetPathay (1810 1857) was a French dramatist, poet and novelist. Along with his poetry, he is known for writing the autobiographical novel La Confession d'un enfant du sicle (The Confession of a Child of the Century). Musset was born in Paris. His family was upperclass but poor and his father worked in various key government positions, but never gave his son any money. His mother came from similar circumstances and her role as a society hostess for example her drawingroom parties, luncheons and dinners held in the Musset residence left a lasting impression on young Alfred. Early indications of Musset's boyhood talents were seen by his fondness for acting impromptu miniplays based upon episodes from old romance stories he had read. Years later, elder brother Paul de Musset would preserve these and many other details, for posterity, in a biography on his famous younger brother.Henri, vicomte de Bornier (1825 1901) was a French poet and dramatist. He came to Paris in 1845 with the object of studying law, but in that year he published a volume of verse, Les Premieres Feuilles and the ComdieFranaise accepted a play of his entitled Le Manage de Luther. Among the numerous other works of de Bornier should be mentioned: Dmitri (1876), libretto of an opera by Victorin de Joncires; and the dramas, Les Noces d'Attila (1880) and Mahomet (1888). The production of this last piece was forbidden in deference to the representations of the Turkish ambassador. Henri de Bornier was critic of the Nouvelle Revue from 1879 to 1887. His Posies compltes were published in 1894. He died in January 1901.
