Book by Cook, Sherburne F.
⚠️ WARNING (California Proposition 65):

birth defects, or other reproductive harm.
While the content is important, I struggled with the pacing of the book. Some chapters felt like they dragged on and I found it hard to keep my attention. However, the subject matter is crucial for understanding California's past, so I’d still say it's worth it for the information provided.

Well-researched but a bit dry
The book covers a lot of ground and is well-researched, but I found some sections a bit dry. It’s packed with information, which is great if you’re looking for depth, but I expected a more engaging narrative. Worth reading if you're studying this period, though.

Informative for history buffs!
As a history fanatic, I really appreciated how this book presents the perspectives of both the California Indians and the white settlers. It’s a good blend of facts and narratives that opened my eyes to the complexities of their interactions. Definitely a keeper on my shelf!

Not what I expected
I was looking for a more narrative-driven account, but this book felt more like a textbook in some sections. It’s informative, but I wish it had a more engaging writing style. I still learned a lot, just didn't enjoy the read as much as I hoped.

A powerful narrative of injustice
This book does an incredible job of detailing the injustices faced by California's Indigenous people. It was hard to read at times but necessary to grasp the reality of the conflict. I learned so much and believe it should be part of every educational curriculum.
