This book investigates the political discourse of opposition with reference to the political discourse of the Muslim Brotherhood during the 2005 Egyptian parliamentary elections. It examines the hidden ideology of the Muslim Brotherhood movement convoyed in the discourse delivered by the General Guide of the movement, and how these ideologies are reflected in language. The study uses and sheds light on Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) as an interdisciplinary approach used for the process of data analysis. Systemic Functional Grammar, transitivity in particular, is investigated and applied. In addition, other linguistic tools such as lexical choices in the light of positive selfpresentation and negative otherpresentation, overlexicalization, and dysphemism are applied in the process of data analysis. Finally, this study deeply examines the hidden ideology of the political opposition, namely the Muslim Brotherhood, in Egypt.
