Product DescriptionDescribes the origins of the economy of the United States, analyzes its present state of economics, and forecasts the future of our economyFrom School Library JournalGrade 710 Very brief but insightful overviews of the economic forces that have shaped American history. Unfortunately, this type of survey is likely to be little used. Students doing research are urged to focus their topics. While the books could be helpful in developing perspective and context, few readers will be tempted when they see how briefly their specific subject areas are treated. Presentation and writing are appropriate for fifth or sixth graders, but the concepts require the background of older students. The final chapter of Economic History covers 19691988 and comprises 13 pages, including considerable space allocated to blackandwhite photographs. Nevertheless, the generalizations (backed up by some key statistics) made are helpful in understanding this complex period. Both titles have glossaries, but they are not very comprehensive. Illustrations, including archival photographs, are well reproduced and well placed. Each title has an index, but, sadly, no documentation or bibliography.
