About the Author LINDA C. STANLEY is Professor of English at Queensborough Community College, City University of New York. She is also the author of The Foreign Critical Reputation of F. Scott Fitzgerald: An Analysis and Annotated Bibliography (Greenwood Press, 1980). Product Description This bibliography extends the work of Stanley's first volume, The Foreign Critical Reputation of F. Scott Fitzgerald: An Analysis and Annotated Bibliography, to the final two decades of the 20th century. It includes literature from the former countries of the USSR, Romania, India, and Canada, as well as countries that were covered in the first volume, such as Britain, France, Italy, Germany, and Japan. One of the major findings that emerges is that Fitzgerald's poetic prose is extremely difficult to translate, but new translations continue to appear. The introduction to this volume provides a synthesis of Fitzgerald scholarship abroad at the turn of the 21st century and points to new directions already suggested that may represent challenges to current scholarship. An extended analysis introduces each chapter. Each chapter also includes a chronological list of translations and editions of Fitzgerald's work from his earliest appearances in print to those appearing in 2000. The most substantial section of each chapter features fairly detailed annotations of monographs, collections, book chapters, essays, conference papers, articles, reviews, and school editions. This compilation will intrigue anyone interested the work of F. Scott Fitzgerald. Review 'Based on extensive research and an amazing range of sources from eleven different countries spanning across three continents, Linda Stanley's volume will prove invaluable not just to Fitzgerald scholars, but to all scholars in American and comparative literary studies wishing to discover the paths, patterns, and motives of the international reputation of a US author....Stanley's outlook is far from parochial and her careful assessments are firmly grounded in a thorough investigation of the cultural premises and material conditions of the author's reception and of his linguistic and cultural translatability within each country. In both establishing and tracing a fine web of international connections around Fitzgerald's work, Stanley effectively bears witness to the rich promise of the current call for an internationalization of American studies.'Donatella Izzo, Professor, American Literature Universitadegli Studi di Napoli 'L'Orientale' Dipartimento di Studi Comparati? This is a useful portrait of Fitzgerald's reputation in the countries covered.
