Just as one find various types of books in a library, so too does the library of the Old Testament contain various kinds of literature: history, psalms, law codes, wisdom sayings, prophetic oracles, family trees, etc. Each kind of literature follows its own rules for composition and interpretation. Before approaching a book in the library of the Old Testament, one should try to determine what type of book it is.
