In 2231 oil, natural gas, coal, and special materials for highperformance batteries have become depleted and too expensive for most to afford. All but the extremely wealthy must use horses for transportation. Bob Parker and his wife, Audrey, find a hidden 200yearold chest containing strange writings that describe the secret work of a longdead scientist. Bob, Audrey, and their best friend and confidant, Doug Murphy, discover that a device described in the strange writings could potentially make them wealthy and be of great benefit to mankind. However, to gain this benefit the three adventurers would have to find a way to secretly acquire scientific knowledge, develop the device, and get it accepted without losing their lives. Scientific work had been outlawed with a penalty of death for more than 160 years. Their lives are placed in even greater danger when Doug meets a beautiful, dangerous woman.
