Another great John Jakes book, deeply detailing American life, fashion, hunger for progress, old money, new money, and putting all this together in one small place in Newport, Rhode Island. You weren't a part of the late 1800s-early 1900s history unless you went to Newport to attend yearly balls and parties, using Newport itself as the runway for the latest fashion, richest people, and whatever else both old money and new money could do to impress one another year after year. Now, in 2025, we can tune in on our television sets and watch a very popular TV drama about this very time period, same characters, and all their splendor, glory, and how they rise and/or fall as families during this same time period as Jakes's novel, The Gods of Newport. I have really enjoyed reading this book. This is one that I expect I will read more than once. It's just that good!!!
