First published more than twenty years ago, with almost 150,000 copies sold, The Golden Cage is still the classic book on anorexia nervosa, for patients, parents, mental health trainees, and senior therapists alike. Writing in direct, jargonfree style, often quoting her patients descriptions of their own experience of illness and recovery, Bruch describes the relentless pursuit of thinness and the search for superiority in selfdenial that characterizes anorexia nervosa. She emphasizes the importance of early diagnosis and offers guidance on danger signs. Littleknown when this groundbreaking book was first published, eating disorders have become all too familiar. Sympathetic and astute, The Golden Cage now speaks to a new generation.

This book really highlights the enigma of anorexia nervosa, but it can be quite heavy at times. The writing is good, but I found myself needing breaks between chapters. I think it's a valuable resource for anyone wanting to understand this disorder more deeply.

Not What I Expected
Honestly, I was hoping for more solutions or ways to tackle anorexia nervosa in this book. It's more of a narrative exploration than a self-help guide. That said, the stories shared are powerful and worth reading, just not what I was looking for.

A Deep Dive into Anorexia
The Golden Cage is an eye-opening read about the struggles with anorexia nervosa. The way the author explores the psychological aspects is both sensitive and insightful. I bought it for my sister, who is studying psychology, and she can't put it down!
