This magnificent volume presents around 300 of the most important and valuable drawings from the famous collection of the Albertina. The selection covers works from the early fifteenth century to the present, from priceless sheets by Raphael, Michelangelo, D rer, Rubens, Rembrandt, Watteau and Boucher to drawings and watercolors by Chagall, Picasso, Klimt, Schiele, Klee, Kandinsky, Pollock, Rauschenberg, Gertsch, Longo, Baselitz and Kiefer. The collection was founded by Duke Albert von SachsenTeschen from whose name the term Albertina derives. He built a unique collection of drawings and prints in the historical palace on the Augustininan bastion whose splendid interior furnishings reflect the taste of Duke Albert and the subsequent Habsburg owners. Since 2000 a comprehensive restoration and the reacquisition of the original furniture have returned the former brilliance to these historical rooms.
