Product Description 'The Headwaters' is an ambitious, wideranging history that encompasses early settlement; forest development and exploitation; farm development; social, cultural, and personal history; and a perspective of ecologic attributes of Wisconsins northern counties. The book is complete as a social history, a geologic and ecological study, a cultural history, and as a perspective of presentday ecological and social concerns. The authors strongest points are in the descriptions of landscape features and explication of ecological and biological concerns. The Headwaters is a book that will be read for pleasure, for information on rural culture and land conservation and even for inspiration. The book will be a welcome addition to our knowledge not just of the state, but of ourselves and our place in the Middle West. About the Author Gerald L. Storm, a native of Wisconsin, was raised on a dairy farm in Corning Township, Lincoln County. He spent five years with the Illinois Natural History as a Field Ecologist. He was a Wildlife Biologist with the U. S. Department of Interior (Fish and Wildlife Service and National Biological Service), and served as an Associate Professor of Wildlife Management with The Pennsylvania State University for 25 years, retiring in 1997. He has been a member of The Wildlife Society for more than 45 years.
