Winemaking is as old as civilization itself, and this illuminating volume takes a unique approach to that history: by exploring 100 bottles that have had the biggest impact on the evolution of wine. Moving from the first cork tops to screw caps, renowned wine writer Oz Clarke presents such landmarks as the introduction of the cylindrical wine bottle in the 1780s; the first estate to bottle and label its own wine (formerly sold in casks to merchants only); the most expensive bottle sold at auction and the oldest unopened bottle; the change in classifications; and the creation of numerous famous vintages. Fully illustrated with photographs of bottles, labels, and other images, this is a beautiful tribute to the bottled poetry that is wine.

This book has some great information and the concept of covering wine history through 100 bottles is clever. However, I found a few sections to be a bit too technical for casual readers. It's still a good read, just not as accessible as I’d hoped for my friends who are new to wine.

A Fascinating Read for Wine Lovers
I bought this book for my husband who is a huge wine enthusiast and he absolutely loves it! The way it covers 100 different bottles really gives a great overview of wine history, from Bacchus to Bordeaux. Each section is informative and engaging, making it a perfect coffee table book too.

Damaged Upon Arrival
I was really looking forward to this book, but it arrived with some pages crinkled and the cover slightly torn. The content seems promising, but I was disappointed with the condition it came in. I guess I’ll have to exchange it and hope for a better copy next time.
