By the author of the hugely successful The Thorn BirdsIt is a truth universally acknowledged that anyone who loved PRIDE AND PREJUDICE will want to know what happened to the Bennet sistersTwenty years on, Jane has a happy marriage and large family; Lizzy and Mr Darcy now have a formidable social reputation; Lydia has a reputation of quite another kind; Kitty is much in demand in Londons parlours and ballrooms; but what of Mary?Mary is quietly celebrating her independence, having nursed her ailing mother for many years. She decides to write a book to bring the plight of the poor to everyones attention. But with more resolve than experience, as she sets out to travel around the country, its not only her family who are concerned about her. Marriage may be far from her mind, but what if she were to meet the one man whose own fiery articles infuriate the politicians and industrialists? And what if when she starts to ask similar questions, she unwittingly places herself in great danger?

I enjoyed the premise of this novel, but it felt a bit slow at times. The character development of Mary is well done, yet I wished there was more action. Still, it’s a decent read if you're a fan of classic literature with a fresh angle.

Disappointing ending, sadly
I had high hopes for this take on Miss Mary Bennet, but I was let down. The story started strong but seemed to fizzle out toward the end. I expected more resolution. The writing style is nice, though; just a shame about the plot.

Charming read with great character depth
I picked this up expecting a fun twist on a classic and was not disappointed! The storytelling is engaging, and Miss Mary Bennet's character really shines through with her unique perspective. The cover design is lovely, too, making it a perfect addition to my bookshelf.
