About the Author Shlomo Simonsohn is Professor of Medieval Jewish history, Sir Isaac Wolfson Professor of Jewish Studies, and director of the Diaspora Research Institute in the University of Tel Aviv. His recent publications include: The Apostolic See and the Jews, 8 vols (198891) and numerous papers on medieval Jewish history.Ariel Toaff is Professor of Medieval Jewish history at BarIlan University (Israel). Currently he is Visiting Professor of Jewish history at Pontificia Universit Gregoriana, Rome. Recently published: Il vino e al carne. Una communit ebraica nel Medio Evo (1989).
