A nice, unabridged edition with 34 illustrations and photographs, and the cover from the first edition.The Jungle is a 1906 novel portraying the harsh conditions and exploited lives of immigrants in the United States in Chicago and similar industrialized cities. Sinclairs primary purpose in describing the meat industry and its working conditions was to advance socialism in the United States. However, most readers were more concerned with several passages exposing health violations and unsanitary practices in the American meat packing industry during the early 20th century, which greatly contributed to a public outcry which led to reforms including the Meat Inspection Act. Sinclair famously said of the public reaction, I aimed at the publics heart, and by accident I hit it in the stomach.

While I absolutely love the illustrations in The Jungle Illustrated first edition, I felt the price was a bit high. It’s a great piece for display, but I worry that my kids might not take care of it as they should. Still a fantastic addition to our collection!

Good Book, But Packaging Issues
I ordered this first edition of The Jungle, and while the book is great, the packaging arrived dented. The book itself is in perfect condition and the illustrations are beautiful, but it’s frustrating to see the box damaged. Not sure if I would order from here again if packaging is an issue.

Disappointed with the Quality
I was excited to receive The Jungle Illustrated first edition, but unfortunately, it had a few pages that were poorly printed and hard to read. I expected better quality for the price. It’s a shame because the illustrations are really nice. Wouldn't recommend it.

A Beautiful Collector's Item
I picked up The Jungle Illustrated first edition as a gift for my daughter who's just starting to enjoy classic literature. The illustrations are stunning and really bring the story to life. The hardcover feels sturdy, which is great for a young reader. She's obsessed with it!
