Environmental tragedies such as Chernobyl and the Exxon Valdez remind us that catastrophic accidents are always possible in a world full of hazardous technologies. Yet, the apparently excellent safety record with nuclear weapons has led scholars, policymakers, and the public alike to believe that nuclear arsenals can serve as a secure deterrent for the foreseeable future. In this provocative book, Scott Sagan challenges such optimism. Sagans research into formerly classified archives penetrates the veil of safety that has surrounded U.S. nuclear weapons and reveals a hidden history of frightening close calls to disaster.

This book had some great insights, but I felt it dragged a bit in parts. The theories are solid, but I wish the author had made it a bit more accessible. Still, worth a read if you're into safety and risk management.

Thought-Provoking Read
I just finished 'The Limits of Safety', and it was eye-opening. This book dives deep into how safety measures, while important, can sometimes lead to complacency. I found the case studies particularly intriguing!

Great Concept, Poor Execution
I really wanted to love 'The Limits of Safety', but I found it hard to get through. The ideas were fascinating, but the writing style was too technical for my liking. I appreciate the effort, but it could use some polishing.
