Between the years 1925 and 1931 the publishing tycoon, William Randolph Hearst acquired six Medieval Period structures in the United Kingdom and Spain. Hearst dismantled all, or portions, of these buildings, with the intention of rebuilding some, and using others as fabric for other construction projects in the United States, most notably, Hearst Castle at San Simeon, California and another residence, St. Donatss Castle in Wales. The Lost Monasteries of William Randolph Hearst is the story of Dr. Robert Baers quest to document this little known, and little researched period in the life of WRH, within the wider context of Hearsts life as a builder and collector.
