When Lila returns to India from the United States after inheriting an ancestral home, she must confront a culture that has always been a part of her, her mother from whom she has been estranged for a decade, and her family (grandmother, aunts, uncles, and cousins) who all still live in the house. These family members resent her sudden inheritance of this humongous home, a stunning display of the status and culture of the zamindars, Indias ruling class that was so firmly shaped by British colonial rule.Beyond that, her first love, the nowmarried Adil, seeks her out when she arrives back in Calcutta, and Seth, her star author and sometimes lover, decides to surprise her by showing up in India as well. As Lila navigates both affairs and her familys deep mistrust, a legacy of violence in the family can no longer be ignored. In the aftermath of her cousin Biddys wedding, an uncle is dead, and her grandmother unwillingly reveals her own secrets. With a lawsuit against Lila gathering steam and a police investigation triggered, Lila must finally reckon with her inherited custom of sweeping everything under the rug to preserve appearances. With an unforgettable house at its heart, a violent past erupting into the present, a problematic romance, and a compelling and conflicted heroine, this novel is an utterly addictive read.

I finally received The Magnificent Ruins, but I was a bit disappointed by the shipping time. It took longer than expected to arrive, and the tracking wasn’t updated. The product itself is quite stunning, though!

Beautiful but fragile
While I love the aesthetic of The Magnificent Ruins, I found it a bit fragile. The colors are stunning, but I had to be careful when placing it on my shelves. Just a slight bump and it feels like it could chip easily!

A great conversation starter
I got The Magnificent Ruins as a gift for my brother, and he absolutely loves it! The artistry is striking and it really gets people talking when they see it. Just make sure to handle it with care!

Not what I expected
I was really looking forward to The Magnificent Ruins, but it didn’t meet my expectations. The colors are different from what I saw online, and it feels less sturdy than I hoped. Not sure it was worth the price for me.

Incredible detail and artistry!
I was truly amazed by the level of detail in The Magnificent Ruins. It has this beautiful blend of colors that makes any room look unique. I bought it for my living room, and it really ties the whole space together!
