First published in 1963 as The Wind Has Wings (Oxford University Pr; o.p.), this is a collection of the poetry of over 50 Canadians. The editors have added 19 poems to the original collection and have selected a wide range of poems, from the traditional anonymous piece "Jack Was Every Inch a Sailor" to the free verse of Miriam Waddington's "Laughter." Although some of the poetry reflects Canadian ties, is not specifically regional. Elizabeth Cleaver's colorful collage illustrations and blackandwhite linocuts are distinct and will appeal to children. It is unlikely, however, that this large collection of varied, not particularly distinguished verse, will lure nonpoetry readers.
