At the heart of this book is the revolutionary idea that human consciousness did not begin far back in animal evolution. Rather, Jaynes presents consciousness as a learned process that evolved from an earlier hallucinatory mentality only three thousand years ago. The implications extend into every aspect if human life.

I was excited to read this book, but sadly, my copy arrived with a damaged spine. I couldn't return it in time for my book club. The content seems interesting based on the first few chapters, but I’m disappointed with the delivery.

Intriguing Concept, Confusing Parts
The concept of bicameralism is so intriguing, but I found some of the arguments a bit convoluted. It's definitely thought-provoking, but I had to reread several sections to grasp the ideas fully. Good for a book club discussion!

Not for Everyone
While I appreciate the ambition behind this book, I struggled with the writing style. Some ideas were brilliant, but the dense language made it hard to follow at times. Still, there are amazing insights if you can get through the tougher sections.
