Aware that many birds will not occupy an area unless other birds are already there, biologists used mirrors and twodimensional cutouts to lure Atlantic puffins to establish colonies off the coast of Maine, getting curious puffins to visit the site and linger long enough to encounter a live bird. As Stutchbury says, Trying to save birds without understanding what makes them tick is a shot in the dark birds are highly social, and their social needs are at least as important as their physical needs.

I picked up this book hoping for more scientific depth on bird communication. While the anecdotes are charming, I felt some chapters could have explored the complexities of social life a bit more. Still, it's a decent read for casual bird lovers. Just don't expect a deep dive into the science.

Not What I Expected at All!
I was pretty disappointed with this book. I thought it would cover more about how to actually observe birds in the wild, but it’s more of a narrative about their social lives. Plus, some of the stories felt a bit repetitive. I wouldn't recommend it if you're looking for practical guidance.
