First published on January 29, 1845, in the New York Evening Mirror, The Raven is perhaps the most renowned poem in American letters. Alan Robinsons wood engravings brilliantly depict the grim and ominous presence of Poes ungainly fowl and give this edition a special place on the shelf of every Poe collector, mystery fan, and fine print aficionado. Robinsons fierce and haunting illustrations resonate with the power of Poes verse and are fresh evidence of the young engravers enormous talents. >i>The Raven appears in this volume accompanied by The Philosophy of Composition. Written in the masters ruminating voice, the essay explains Poes unusual method of crafting his poem.

I thought The Raven would be more about visual art techniques but it’s heavily focused on theory. Some of the concepts were a bit too abstract for me. I guess if you’re into deep artistic discussions, it might be worth it, but I found it tough to connect with.

Thought-Provoking and Beautifully Written
The Raven with the Philosophy of Composition is a total gem! The way it explores the relationship between art and philosophy is incredibly thought-provoking. I bought it as a gift for my friend who’s an artist, and I think it’ll spark some interesting discussions between us.

A Deep Dive into Artistic Thought
The Raven's insights on composition are profound. I love how the book combines analysis with beautiful illustrations that really capture the essence of each piece. It's a great read for anyone looking to deepen their understanding of art philosophy.

Interesting but with a few flaws
While I appreciated the philosophical approach in The Raven, I found some sections a bit dense and hard to follow. It's great for art buffs, but a lighter read would have been nice for casual readers like me. Still, some valuable points throughout!
