I picked up 'The Scalpel and the Silver Bear' because I wanted to learn more about Navajo culture and medicine. The way the author combines her experiences as a surgeon with traditional healing practices is really eye-opening. It’s inspiring to see how she balances both worlds.

Interesting but Needs More Depth
This book definitely shares some cool stories about the first Navajo woman surgeon. I appreciated the blend of Western medicine and traditional healing, but sometimes the writing felt a bit rushed. I wanted to dive deeper into her experiences and thoughts.

Not What I Expected
I was really looking forward to this book, but I found it a bit disappointing. The storytelling didn’t grab me, and I hoped for more insights into her medical practice and less on personal anecdotes. It just didn’t connect with me.
