This classic work from the 1870s contains the proceedings of the Second, Third, and Fourth American Chess Congresses: Cleveland 1871, Chicago 1874, and Philadelphia 1876. Included are the presented papers as well as the grand tournament games.

I enjoyed diving into the history of chess with this book, particularly the Chicago 1874 details. However, a few pages were a little worn, which was disappointing for a new purchase. Still, I found the content engaging enough to keep it on my shelf!

Perfect gift for a chess lover!
Gave this to my brother who’s a chess fanatic, and he loved it! The historical context of the American chess scene in the 1870s, especially the games from 1874, is really compelling. A great gift that he’ll cherish for years!

Great historical insight, but not for everyone
The American Chess Congress series is definitely unique, especially with events from Philadelphia 1876. I found it very informative, but I can see how some casual chess players might find it dry. Worth it if you really love the game!

A must-have for chess enthusiasts!
As a chess aficionado, I was thrilled to find this collection of the American Chess Congress from the 1870s. The details on the matches are fascinating, especially the ones from Cleveland 1871. It’s a great addition to my library and perfect for studying historical games!

Not what I expected at all
I bought this thinking it would have more visuals or diagrams of the games played, but it’s mostly text-heavy. The content on Cleveland and Chicago is interesting, but it felt really dense. I ended up not enjoying it as much as I wanted to.
