The Shoshone people's history is forever tied to the period known as westward expansion in the United States. Occupying lands in presentday Idaho, Wyoming, Utah, California, and Nevada, the Shoshone tribe lived in western North America for hundreds of years before white settlers were drawn there by land and gold.
