The 1760s were troubled times on the frontier in Western Pennsylvania. Both Pennsylvania and Virginia were squabbling over the territory. The settlers not only had the mammoth job of clearing the land in order to plant crops but they had to be ever vigilant for Indian attacks. The French had been driven out of the region, which they needed to connect the land above the Great Lakes to the land they claimed in the deep South, Louisiana. The Indian tribes were being pushed further and further west away from their ancestral home. Life was anything but simple... Sam Hossler spent over 50years hunting, fishing and hiking over the hills described in the book. His love of the outdoors and history eventually led to this work. Hossler has been a writer over 35 years, is apast president of the Pennsylvania Outdoor Writers Association and a member of the Outdoor Writers Association of America.
