The surgical and nautical details in 'The Surgeon's Mate' are really impressive! Patrick O'Brian does a great job of immersing you in the era. I found myself looking up terms and historical references, which made it even more fascinating.

Packaging Could Be Better
I really enjoy the storytelling in this book, but the condition it arrived in was less than ideal. The cover had some scratches. Still, the story kept me hooked, so I guess it balances out!

Honestly, I expected more from 'The Surgeon's Mate'. The plot didn’t grab me like previous books, and I found myself losing interest halfway through. I’d recommend earlier titles in the series instead.

As a collector of naval histories, this book was a delightful find. The insights into 19th-century surgery and life at sea were quite enlightening. I’m happy to add it to my shelf, but I did wish for a bit more action.

While I appreciate what the book offers, it felt a bit slower than the previous ones. I love the characters, but some parts dragged for me. Still a solid read for anyone invested in the Aubrey-Maturin saga.
