Although Arthur Conan Doyle is best known for his stories about the detective Sherlock Holmes. He was a prolific writer whose other works include science fiction stories, historical novels, plays, romances, poetry, and nonfiction. The Tragedy of the Korosko was first published in 1898. It is the story of group of European tourists who are on a trip to Egypt in 1895. They are sailing up the River Nile in a turtlebottomed, roundbowed sternwheeler named the Korosko. They have planned to travel to Abousir located at the southern frontier of Egypt. They are attacked and abducted by a marauding band of Dervish warriors.
