Everywhere around the world, people make daily decisions about what to wear or how to dress. The Visible Self, 3rd Edition, presents a systematic approach to analyzing daily rituals that we all sharenot simply the act of putting on clothing, but also the method of cleansing the body and adorning it. Using Western and nonWestern examples, the authors take a threepronged approach to understanding dress across cultures, uncovering its relationship to human beings as biological, aesthetic, and social animals. Readings collected from classic books and academic journals enable students to appreciate the complexity of dress from a multidisciplinary perspective that includes anthropology, sociology, economics, fine arts, and the natural sciences.

I was really excited about this collection, but it arrived with a bent cover. I didn't want to return it because the content is so relevant to my studies. Just wish the packaging was better.

Thought-Provoking and Insightful
I read 'Global Perspectives on Dress, Culture and Society' for my sociology class and it opened my eyes! The discussions around how clothing impacts identity are incredibly engaging. It's a bit dense at times, but totally worth the effort if you're into cultural studies.

A Mixed Bag of Essays
The book has some great sections, especially the parts about traditional attire in different cultures. However, I found a few essays to be repetitive and not as interesting. But I guess that's the nature of compilations.

Perfect for Students and Enthusiasts
I bought this book for my fashion studies class and it’s been a great resource! The perspectives are diverse, and I love how it tackles the connection between dress and societal norms. Highly recommend for anyone interested in this field!
