This volume covers the entire span of the Baroque, with topics ranging from early Italian opera in Florence to synagogue music in Mantua, from Italian women composers to the solo song in Shakespeares England. Utilizing a wide variety of approaches, the contributors examine economic, religious, and sociological influences on the Baroque style. Two CDs are included.
