Olympic rider and World Championship bronze medallist Jennie LoristonClarke draws from years of experience to offer a wealth of sound, practical advice on every aspect of working with young horses from early handling through backing, longeing, and longreining to hacking and early jumping. Throughout, she emphasizes the importance of understanding that horses have individual temperaments and that training methods must be flexible enough to accommodate the various characters encountered. Moreover, she stresses that in order to produce a wellbalanced and responsive animal, one must first win the horses trust and respect. Handsomely illustrated, The Young Horse will help make the training process a pleasurable experience for all.

I can't recommend 'The Young Horse: Breaking and Training' enough if you're working with a young horse. The step-by-step guidance made a huge difference for us. My new colt has responded well to the methods outlined in the book!

Great resource for new trainers!
I recently bought 'The Young Horse: Breaking and Training' after getting my first foal. The tips in this book are super practical and easy to follow, especially for someone who's new to horse training. I love the clear illustrations that make the methods easier to understand!

Good introduction to training
As a novice trainer, this book was pretty helpful. I appreciated the straightforward language and how it lays out the process of training young horses. It's a nice overview, but I do wish it went into more advanced techniques for when I get more comfortable.

Helpful but needs more detail
This book has some solid advice on breaking and training young horses. I found a lot of useful techniques, but I wish there were more detailed examples on common scenarios. Overall, it’s a good starting point for trainers like me!

Not what I expected
I was hoping for a deeper dive into training techniques, but this book felt a bit basic. The concepts are fine, just not as comprehensive as I needed for my specific situation. It may work for absolute beginners, though!
