TheSky Student Edition' CDROM turns any computer into a personal planetarium. Loaded with data and images on 118,000 stars and 13,000 deepsky objects, this program allows students to view the sky from anywhere on earth, at any given date and time from 4,000 years ago to 8,000 years in the future. Students will see the sky in motion, view constellations, see planets move, watch orbiting moons, locate distant galaxy clusters, display lunar and solar eclipses, print star charts, and much more. The accompanying workbook includes detailed instructions for using the powerful software. The workbook includes examples, exercises, and indepth explanations of astronomical topics such as the different types of sky coordinates; the motions of Earth and planetary objects; the naming conventions and locations of astronomical bodies; lunar phases and solar and lunar eclipses; and sidereal time. Using the workbook and 'TheSky', students are guided through fascinating explorations of their universe and encouraged to achieve a greater comprehension and appreciation of the cosmos. Students develop a handson understanding of the basics of celestrial mechanics and the motions of the night sky.
