This edition of the Three Character Classic features both English and Chinese side by side for easy reference and bilingual support. The Three Character Classic is a Chinese classic text. The teachings embody Confucianism, and is suitable for teaching young children or for studying the language. The text is written in triplets of characters for easy memorization. The oral tradition of reciting the classic ensured its popularity and survival through the centuries. With the short and simple text arranged in threecharacter verses, you can learn many common characters, grammar structures, elements of Chinese history and the basis of Confucian morality, especially filial piety and respect for elders. Parents still use this classic to teach their young children Chinese characters. This English translation was completed by worldrenowned sinologist Herbert Giles.
