Through works of art, photographs, and writings, this volume explores Picassos fascination with tribal art and the influences he repeatedly drew upon for his own oeuvre.African art? I dont know it. With this provocative tone, Picasso tried to deny his relationship with art from outside of Europe. However, through hundreds of archival documents and photographs, this volume illustrates how tribal art from Africa, Oceania, the Americas, and Asia was a recurring source of inspiration for the artist.Sidebyside comparisons illustrate the links between Picassos oeuvre and diverse tribal arts. In both, we find the same themesnudity, sexuality, impulses, death, and morealong with parallel artistic expressions of those themessuch as disfiguration or destruction of the body. The volume is completed with a chronology of the relevant works and photographs of the artist in his studio.

I was excited to receive 'Through the Eyes of Picasso', but I was disappointed when it arrived. The cover was dented and some pages were slightly bent. For a book focused on art, the presentation matters a lot. I expected better quality for the price.

A Fascinating Journey Through Art
This book, 'Through the Eyes of Picasso', is a captivating read. The way it connects African and Oceanic art is truly enlightening. Every page is filled with beautiful illustrations that really bring the cultures to life. I bought it as a gift for a friend who loves art, and they can’t put it down!

Interesting, but Lacking Depth
I found 'Through the Eyes of Picasso' to be quite interesting, but I was hoping for more in-depth analysis. The visuals are great and the connections made are thought-provoking, yet some sections felt rushed. It’s a nice coffee table book, though!
