Unzhlige Studien befassen sich mit dem auf der Urfassung Chrestiens fuenden Ritterepos um die Artusrunde und den heiligen Gral; die mittelalterliche Vorlage liefert Stoff fr immer wieder neue Verfilmungen und literarische Motivabwandlungen ein schier unerschpflicher Fundus. Besonders gerhmt werden hufig Wolframs eigentmlicher Erzhlstil und seine illustrative Symbol und Bildsprache und so zielt auch die vorliegende Arbeit darauf ab, sich in die Reihe der metapherndeutenden Analysen einzugliedern. Bereits im die narrative Position des Erzhlers in Relation zu seinem fingierten Publikum prsentierenden Prolog treffen wir auf ein fr das gesamte Epos entscheidendes, immer wieder metaphorisch erscheinendes Tier: die Elster. Das charismatische Federtier wiederum erweist sich schnell als Sinnbild einer wichtigen thematischen Sentenz, welche das Gesamtwerk quasi leitmotivisch durchzieht, und zwar die Problematik des (menschlichen) zwivels. Schon in diesen ersten Versen wird das Bild des Zweifels und Schwankens in einen hochkomplexen Konnex eingeflochten: Der Erzhler integriert es unverzglich in den verzweigten metaphorischen Rahmen um komplementre Gewalten (Himmel und Hlle) und ein manifestes animalisches Ideogramm: das der Elster.
