In this thesis the author focuses on the metaphysical implications of the realist interpretation of special relativity. The realist interpretation is found wanting in coherence as it utilizes metaphysical concepts (as causation) that are left unjustified if the theory is taken at face value. The author points at a possible reinterpretation of special relativity that allows for a coherent metaphysical basis while containing the mathematical structure of the theory.
