Over the course of her life, the ship participated in naval battles, troop landings, shore bombardments, submarine attacks, air sea rescue, convoy duty and an "ultra secret mission." At sea when Pearl Harbor was attacked, the Lamson served as an escort for the carrier Lexington as it searched for the Japanese fleet.
