Nicknamed the "Lucky Lamson" for its incredible survival of aircraft bombing attacks, surface warfare, a devastating kamikaze crash and a typhoon that sank many ships, the warship played a notable role in American history that is described in intimate detail. Over the course of her life, the ship participated in naval battles, troop landings, shore bombardments, submarine attacks, air sea rescue, convoy duty and an "ultra secret mission." At sea when Pearl Harbor was attacked, the Lamson served as an escort for the carrier Lexington as it searched for the Japanese fleet. The USS Lamson's wartime Japanese tally included two submarines, two ships, and at least 8 planes and 8 shore bombardments.
