En esta aventura, Tintn parte al centro de frica, para realizar un reportaje. All le esperan peligrosas aventuras, pues sus enemigos le persiguen para matarle. Al volver Tintn de su viaje a Rusia relatado en Tintn en el pas de los Soviets, Herg recibe el encargo de hacer viajar a Tintn al Congo, entonces colonia de Blgica. Este lbum es un documento excelente para ver cmo imaginaban los europeos de la poca a frica y a los africanos. La historia comenz a publicarse el 5 de junio de 1930 en Le Petit Vingtime (Ver Biografa de Herg). En 1946, Herg redibuj totalmente el lbum para pasarlo a color y reducir sus 110 planchas de origen a las 62 pginas que tendran los lbumes en lo sucesivo. En esta nueva versin a color introdujo numerosas modificaciones, suavizando un poco los tintes colonialistas. A pesar de ello, Tintn en el Congo cay en desgracia a partir de los aos 50, y se hizo bastante difcil de encontrar. Era el conflictivo momento de la descolonizacin, y el lbum no era particularmente muy oportuno. Pero curiosamente fue en una revista del Zaire donde reapareci por primera vez la historia, acabando con la cuarentena de Tintn en el Congo.
