About the Author SINCE RECEIVING HER PH.D. in English from The University of Oklahoma, Susan Smith Nash has spent a great deal of time on educational, economic development, and literary projects in South America and the former Soviet Union, particularly Paraguay, Brazil, Argentina, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Russia. Her essays, poetry, and short fiction have appeared recently in 13th Moon, Gazetti Litteraria (Baku, Azerbaijan), Talisman, La Nacin (Asuncion, Paraguay), Sodobnost (Ljubljana, Slovenia), Outlet, and World Literature Today. Susan lives with her teenage son, Michael, and her beagle, Sammy in Oklahoma. COVER ARTIST BASIL KING is a painter and poet who has just completed the Rimbaud Suites, for Illuminations, The Drunken Boat, and A Season in Hell. He lives and works in Brooklyn. His next book of text and art, Warp Spasm, is forthcoming from Spuyten Duvyil Press. Product Description Cultural Writing. Essays, meditations, travel notes, or chapters in a novella, these seven pieces defy easy categorization. Our narrator (a certain Susan Smith Nash) initially introduces herself as a resourceful, capable, sedated woman turning 40, but the reader soon finds this thumbnail sketch unraveling. Recording the unique perceptions of a woman addicted to relentless exploration, this is a book of fierce honesty, a soulbaring performance that manages to be both intellectually challenging and emotionally quickening. Susan Smith Nash is the author of many other titles carried by SPD, including the popular CHANNELSURFING THE APOCALYPSE and DOOMSDAY BELLY.
