Bahnt sich in Platoon" eine mythische Todesinszenierung an, da der Mythos den Tod als Ende und Beginn einer Wandlung beschreibt, so ist in Hamburger Hill" die Zerstrung des menschlichen Krpers die Ausdrucksform der Kriegserfahrung, Private Ryan" berichtet hingegen vom zerstckelten Krper im Tod, und schafft mit der Landungssequenz der alliierten Truppen in der Normandie einen Epos des Todes. Die Ansatzpunkte fr die Frage nach der Todesinszenierung sind die sthetischen und handlungsspezifischen Merkmale, die den Tod abbilden oder davon erzhlen. Konkret bedeutet das die Untersuchung der uerungen und Handlungen der Soldaten zum Tod der Kameraden oder zum eigenen Tod als Bevorstand. Wie wird Sterben und Todesmoment sthetisch dargestellt bzw. abgebildet? Wie wird der Tod an sich verstanden oder welche Bedeutungszusammenhnge werden ihm, speziell im Krieg, oder allgemein, zugeordnet? Wie wird das brutale DASS des Todes gezeigt, was sagt es ber das WAS? Stefan Reinecke spricht davon, dass Kino den Schrecken abbilde, Bilder vom Sterben machen das Unfassbare abbildbar, das Unvorstellbare verstndlich" .
