In 1951, the first ever Wexford Opera Festival (now known as Wexford Festival Opera) took place in a small town in the southeast corner of Ireland. What started out as an informal gathering of friends listening to gramophone music, developed into one of Europes leading classical music events. T.J. Walsh, a medical doctor by profession and an amateur musician, was the man whose novel idea it was to start an opera festival from such humble beginnings. This book traces the history of the Festival, from its establishment up to the present day.

I bought this book thinking it would have more analysis instead of just a chronological recounting. While it does cover the festival's history well, I was hoping for deeper insights into the productions. Still, it’s decent for a light read.

A Fascinating Read for Festival Lovers
As someone who has attended the Wexford Festival several times, this book offers an incredible insight into its history. Tom Walsh's detailed account from 1951 to 2004 was captivating, and I loved the behind-the-scenes stories. Definitely worth adding to your collection if you're a fan of opera!

Arrived Damaged, Not Happy
I was really looking forward to reading this book, but it arrived with a bent cover and a few pages crinkled. Disappointed with the shipping quality. I'm hoping to get a replacement because I want to read the content!

Good but Lacked Some Depth
I enjoyed reading 'The History of the Wexford Festival', but I felt it skimmed over some key events. It was informative overall, especially for newcomers to the festival. Just wish there was a bit more detail on certain performances!
