Modern corporations are constantly implementing information technology initiatives not only to improve operational efficiency but also to enhance business strategy. However, there is a great variety in the contribution of IT initiatives to business value. An important source of this variety comes from the composition of top management team and how its members make strategic decisions. This book examines how different compositions in terms of power distribution and group characteristics of TMT can influence the business value of information technology projects. Different theoretical perspectives from strategic management and information systems literature are discussed and a theoretical model is developed. A method to measure this business value is developed based on recent accounting research. Results of the study suggest that power distribution among the TMT is an important success factors in largescale IT initiatives. Results of the empirical analysis should be useful to researchers, executives, and IT professionals, who can be well informed about the role of TMT power distribution and other TMT characteristics on the productivity of largescale IT initiatives.
